Horse Stables Gold Coast

Horse stables and shelters need air moving above head height and a dry feed room, and our shed builders design them for Gold Coast and hinterland properties around how you work your yard.

  • Laid Out for Your Daily Routine

We set it out so feeding, watering and mucking out flow easily.

  • Open Bays or Stables

We build either one, or both under the same roof.

  • Safe for Horses

We get the height, the edges and the linings right for horses.

  • Dry Feed and Tack Rooms

We seal them to keep out the weather and the rodents.

Do you have a design or drawings yet?

We plan a horse building around your daily route: feed, water, muck out and tack up. You'll walk that route twice a day for years, so it's worth getting the layout right before any concrete is poured. As horse stable builders, we build horse stables, horse shelters and stable blocks across the Gold Coast and hinterland.

Choosing Horse Shelters, Stables or Both

We build open fronted shelters, stable boxes or a row of both under one roof. An open fronted shelter lets a horse come and go as it likes. It suits a paddock and needs the least work from you.

Bay Size

The horse sets the bay size, and so does whether it's a shelter to walk in and out of or a box to stable in.

Height and Clearance

We build it high enough that a horse throwing its head up never gets near the roof, with no low edges at head height.

Ventilation

We keep air moving above the horse, without a draught at floor level.

Drainage

The floor slopes so water runs away from the bedding, and a wash bay drains somewhere sensible.

Setting Up the Feed and Tack Rooms for Your Horse Stables

We make the feed room dry, sealed and hard for rodents to get into. The tack room needs to be dry, secure and ventilated so your leather doesn't go mouldy.

Making a Steel Horse Stable Safe

A row of open fronted horse shelters along a fence line on a Gold Coast hinterland property

We make a steel stable safe with linings, capped edges and kick boards, which are solid boards along the lower walls, so a horse never meets a sharp edge.

We put the fixings where a horse can't reach them and close any gap a hoof or a head could get caught in.

Whether you call it a horse shed, a shelter or a stable, we cap the edges, fit the kick boards and keep the fixings out of reach.

What You Can Choose

Each of these changes the building, so it helps to think about them before we draw it up.

Wash Bay

We build in a wash bay with a hard floor that slopes to a drain.

Water

We put a trough or a tap in each bay.

Lighting

Lights let you do early feeds and late checks.

Float Parking

We can add covered space to park the horse float.

Hay Storage

We set aside a bay for bales, away from the stables.

Roof Colour

A light roof colour reflects more of the summer heat.

Common Questions About Horse Stables

People usually ask us these before we price a shelter.

  • How Big Should a Stable Be?

It depends on your horse and how long it spends inside, so we ask about both before we plan your horse stables.

    Sizing

  • Is a Steel Stable Safe for My Horse?

Yes, when it's built with horses in mind. Covering the lower walls and every edge, and keeping the fixings out of reach, is what makes it safe. Our shed builders line the lower walls and cap every edge before a horse goes near it.

    Materials

  • Can You Add a Feed and Tack Room?

Yes. Our shed builders find it easiest to include in the first design, close to where the float and the feed deliveries pull up.

    Design

  • How Do You Keep Air Moving Through the Stables?

We keep air moving above head height, which clears ammonia and heat without putting a draught on a standing horse. Vents along the ridge, the top line of the roof, and openings high in the end walls do this better than leaving a wall off.

    Comfort

  • What Kind of Floor Does a Stable Need?

One that drains and stays grippy when it's wet, so we slope it to the outside and leave the finish unpolished. The paved area outside stops the ground turning to mud where the horses come and go.

    Site

  • Do You Build Stables in the Tweed Too?

Yes, we build across the Gold Coast hinterland and down into the Tweed. Tell us early if you're over the border, because a property a few minutes south sits under a different council and planning scheme. The approval process changes even when the stable design stays the same.
